Souma Hiro :
Hiro seems
to suffer from some kind of self-esteem problem. Since he's the youngest
Souma , he feels intimidated. This mentality is further encouraged by
the fact that Kisa - the cousin whom he loves - is one year older than
him. Hiro pretends to be an adult by talking and acting in a mature
fashion and criticising people (especially grown-ups) around him.
Hiro had always
had a secret liking towards Kisa. When he consulted Akito for his
approval, Akito dismissed his feelings and went on a rampage to beat up
Kisa. Kisa was so injured that it took two weeks for her to recover.
Hiro felt guilty for her mishap and began to distant himself from her.
He becomes jealous when Kisa befriends Tohru.
Souma Ritsu :
Ritsu's a
very polite yet effeminate young man. He works part time at the Souma
family's onsen - hot springs - while studying as a junior in university.
He's deprived of masculinity and he always dresses up like a girl. ^_^
As another member of the Souma's', Ritsu also suffers his family's
damned fate and is cursed by the monkey of the Jyuunishi. Like
Hiro, he has a low self-esteem - he's always panicking and always
apoligising to people.
He admires Yuki's
brother, Ayame, and even sees him as a model for how to improve his own
life. His biggest desire is to restore the masculine values that he
deserves and sustain the sissy characteristics which he inherited from
his mother.
Souma Akito :
Despite
his age, young Akito is the head of the Souma family. Don't be fooled by
his effeminate appearance! He's a very vicious and malicious young man
who handles everything via violence. His beating of Kisa when Hiro
revealed his liking towards her clear exemplifies this. Indeed, most of
the Souma's' are scared of Akito and often distance themselves from him.
Luckily Akito stays home with Hatori most of the time, recovering from
his prolonged illness - Hatori treats his illness. Akito shows an
interest towards Yuki and seems to dislike Tohru.
Uotasi Arisa :
Uo met
Tohru in junior high school and they had been best friends ever since
then. Before, she was in a gang called the Ladies, which always went
around wreaking havoc. Her family life is in shambles. Her mother ran
away with someone else when Uo was in first grade. Her father is a heavy
drinker and spends most of his days sitting in front of the TV. Unable
to find any affection from within the family, she sought companionship
from her peers. And thus she joined the Ladies. After she met Tohru and
Kyoko, they convinced her to quit the gang.
Ultimately, Uo
managed to rediscover her femininity and she now likes to wear tight
clothes that show off her body shape and tone. Due to Yuki's and Tohru's
intimate relationship, Uo has to fend off Yuki's crazy fan girls from
Tohru. Luckily, her toughness is still predominant. Just as Kagura often
hits Kyo, Uo is also pretty violent towards Kyo and enjoys beating him
up.
Hanajima Saki :
Like Uo, Hana is Tohru's close friend and often wards off Yuki's fan
girls with her latent powers. As a Denpa (it's only a name, ok? Don't
ask me what it means! ^_^) Hana has mind-reading abilities. These powers
are often used to enhance the dramatic effect of the anime and to
exaggerate situations. Hana is usually wearing black - completing the
notion of mysteriousness and secrecy associated with her mind-reading
powers. She looks pretty Gothic - not particularly pretty, but creepy.
Luckily she does possess a feature that many teenagers also possess -
she loves to eat sweets.
